The whole list

Every job and every rate

26 jobs across seven service areas, plus a pre-season agreement for machinery. Hours are chargeable hours. The labour figure is the rate for where the work happens multiplied by those hours, and parts are separate.

  • Labour from $125
  • Every figure is a rate times a number of hours
  • Parts at cost plus 20 per cent, both figures shown

Every figure on this site is an hourly rate multiplied by a number of hours, and both numbers are printed. A workshop hour is $145, an on-site hour is $185, a bench hour is $125 and an after-hours on-site hour is $265. Parts are at cost plus twenty per cent with both figures on the invoice. There is nothing else: no callout fee on top, no shop supplies percentage, no environmental levy.

Every job on this workshop's rate card, with the hours, the rate it is charged at, the turnaround and the labour figure. Nothing here is a figure we typed: each one is the published rate multiplied by the hours. Parts are separate, at cost plus 20 per cent, with both numbers on the invoice. A job that can be done in the workshop or on site is listed at the workshop hour. Done where the vehicle stands rather than here, the same hours are at the on-site hour, $185.

The four rates

What an hour costs, and what makes it that kind of hour

On-site hour

$185an hour

An hour where the equipment travelled. Trucks and machinery are seen where they stand, and travel inside twenty-five miles of Goshen is in this rate rather than added to it.

  • The diagnostic hour is agreed before it starts
  • Under fifteen minutes to fix means it happens inside that hour
  • Parts at cost plus 20 per cent, both figures on the invoice
  • Thirty days on any repair we made

Bench hour

$125an hour

Electronics work under a microscope, on a control unit that came off the vehicle. The cheapest of the four, because nothing had to move and because the alternative is usually buying a new unit.

  • The diagnostic hour is agreed before it starts
  • Under fifteen minutes to fix means it happens inside that hour
  • Parts at cost plus 20 per cent, both figures on the invoice
  • Thirty days on any repair we made

After-hours on-site hour

$265an hour

Evenings and weekends in harvest, for machinery standing in a field. Published rather than negotiated at the gate at nine at night, which is the only honest way to have this rate.

  • The diagnostic hour is agreed before it starts
  • Under fifteen minutes to fix means it happens inside that hour
  • Parts at cost plus 20 per cent, both figures on the invoice
  • Thirty days on any repair we made

The seven things we work on

Starting and charging

Starting and charging

from $145

  • 3 jobs on the rate card
  • one to six hours

Why it will not turn over, why the battery is flat on Monday, and which of the four things in that circuit is actually at fault.

It is on its second new battery and it is still going flat.

Agricultural machinery

Agricultural machinery

from $265

  • 3 jobs on the rate card
  • one to six hours

Tractors, combines, balers and sprayers: monitors, sensors, guidance wiring, and the harness that has spent its life in dust, chaff and vibration.

It stopped in the middle of a field and the weather is turning.

Auxiliary installations

Auxiliary installations

from $145

  • 5 jobs on the rate card
  • one to eight hours

Cameras, work lighting, beacons, trackers, inverters and fridges — fused properly, taken from the right supply, and not spliced into the first wire that had power on it.

We had a camera fitted and now the dash lights up at random.

The one thing bought in advance

A pre-season agreement

Three machines or more at one address, checked between January and April, at a fixed price each. Anything found is quoted before it is done, and the report is written so it can be handed to somebody else.

What it works out at

  • Per machine, three or more at one addresstwo hours$320
  • The same hours bought singly, at the on-site rate$185 an hour$370
  • Cheaper by, per machineone trip$50

It is cheaper because the van goes to one address once. It is not a loyalty discount and it is not a discount for buying more, and if it were either of those the arithmetic could not be printed.

The diagnostic hour

Every job starts with one hour of diagnosis, charged at the rate for where it happens. At the end of it you get what was measured and what it costs to put right, in writing, and you are free to take the vehicle away and have somebody else do the work.

  • $145 in the workshop, $185 where the vehicle stands, $125 on the bench
  • If what we find takes less than fifteen minutes to put right, we put it right inside the hour and there is nothing further to pay.
  • If the hour ends without an answer, you are told that rather than sold a second hour. Carrying on is a decision you make, with what we have measured so far in front of you.
  • What was measured, in writing, and it is yours to take anywhere

What is not in a labour figure

Nothing, is the short answer, and it is worth saying at length because in this trade it usually is not true. There is no shop supplies percentage, no environmental levy, no callout fee on top of the on-site hour, no charge for the telephone call, and no diagnostic charge repeated when the repair follows straight on from the hour that found it. Travel inside twenty-five miles is in the on-site rate rather than added to it, and beyond that the road time is charged at the workshop rate rather than the on-site one.

Parts are the one thing that is separate, and they are at what they cost us plus 20 per cent with both figures on the invoice.

You can stop at the end of the diagnostic hour. You pay for the hour, you keep the written note of what was measured, and you are free to take the vehicle and that note anywhere else.

Parts are at cost plus a published percentage. Parts are charged at what they cost us plus twenty per cent, and the invoice shows both numbers. We take no rebate, commission or bonus from any supplier for fitting one brand rather than another, and no manufacturer is named anywhere on this website.

Nothing on this website names a fault on your vehicle. Not the intake, not the articles and not the telephone. A fault named from a description is a guess, and the whole argument for this trade is that a measurement is not a guess.

Describe the symptom, or just telephone

The symptom check takes about three minutes and gives you a written summary of which circuits would be tested first and why, with the hours and the published rate against each. It is an indicative scope and not a diagnosis — nobody has seen the vehicle — but it is a better opening than a blank contact form. If you would rather skip it, the telephone works.
