$145 a workshop hour 000-000-0000

Orange County and the Route 17 corridor

Where we go

A workshop claiming the Hudson Valley is claiming nothing. These are the towns the vans actually reach, and the point at which travel starts being charged.

  • Free inside twenty-five miles of Goshen
  • Beyond that, road time at the workshop rate
  • $185 an hour on site, minimum one hour

Inside the free-travel radius

Travel is in the on-site rate rather than added to it.

  • Goshen
  • Middletown
  • Chester
  • Florida
  • Campbell Hall

And anywhere else within twenty-five miles of the workshop, which is most of the county.

Regularly, and further out

Road time beyond twenty-five miles is charged at the workshop rate rather than the on-site one, which is the cheaper of the two honest ways to do it.

  • Warwick
  • Monroe
  • Montgomery
  • Walden
  • Pine Bush
  • Otisville
  • Wallkill
  • Circleville
  • Newburgh
  • Port Jervis
  • Sussex County, New Jersey
  • Pike County, Pennsylvania

What is worth a callout and what is not

The rule of thumb is whether the vehicle can come here, because the workshop hour is cheaper than the on-site hour and the difference is what pays for a van and a scope arriving in a yard. For a car or a van that drives, bringing it in is almost always both faster and less expensive, and we will say so on the telephone rather than book a callout.

For a truck, a tractor, a combine or anything that would need a low-loader, the arithmetic reverses immediately: the transport costs more than the visit and the downtime costs more than either.

Which one your vehicle needs

The season changes the map

From the middle of July to the end of October one of us is on call in the evenings and at weekends for machinery that is standing in a field. That is a harvest arrangement and it is charged at the after-hours rate, which is published like everything else.

Between the middle of July and the end of October, farms inside the county come first and the order of the day is decided by what is standing in a field rather than by what telephoned first. That is not a policy anybody enjoys explaining in August, and it is better said in February.

The pre-season check, and what it saves

$145 a workshop hour · $185 on site · agreed before it starts

Describe the symptom, or just telephone

The symptom check takes about three minutes and gives you a written summary of which circuits would be tested first and why, with the hours and the published rate against each. It is an indicative scope and not a diagnosis — nobody has seen the vehicle — but it is a better opening than a blank contact form. If you would rather skip it, the telephone works.
